What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supervisor-Swimming Complex position at City of Tallahassee?
The City of Tallahassee’s Aquatics Program is hiring two (2) Supervisors – Swimming Pool Complex to oversee daily operations and ensure the safety, quality, and success of our community aquatics programs. Each supervisor will manage one of the City’s two Aquatics Complexes, leading staff, maintaining facilities, and coordinating activities that serve thousands of residents each year.
These positions are ideal for hands-on leaders with strong operational knowledge and a passion for aquatic safety, training, and public service.
What You’ll Do:
- Plan, direct, train, and supervise lifeguards, swim coaches, swim instructors, and other temporary staff in the Aquatics Unit.
- Direct the daily operations of the assigned facility, ensuring smooth and safe operation of all aquatic activities.
- Conduct regular in-service training for spinal injury management, pool rescues, and emergency procedures.
- Teach community water safety, CPR, and first aid classes for staff and the public.
- Coordinate staff during public swim, adult fitness swim, ATAC swim team, instructional programs, and private activities.
- Oversee the daily maintenance of the facility, including bathhouse, pool deck, and pool.
- Manage the chemical and mechanical operation of the pool in accordance with state and local regulations.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as budgeting, ordering supplies, and maintaining manuals and procedures.
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven experience supervising aquatic staff or managing pool operations.
- Strong knowledge of pool maintenance, water chemistry, and safety regulations.
- Excellent communication and instructional skills with an emphasis on teamwork and customer service.
- Current certifications in CPR/First Aid and Lifeguard Training Instructor preferred (or ability to obtain within designated timeframe).
- Commitment to maintaining safe, engaging, and community-centered aquatic environments.
Minimum Training & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in leisure services, recreation, or physical education, and one year of professional experience that includes one or more of the following:
- Operation and maintenance of swimming pool facilities
- Recreation programming
- Teaching physical education
- Coaching
- Recreation administration
- A closely related field
- OR an equivalent combination of training and experience
Necessary Special Requirements:
- Must obtain the following certifications within one year of appointment (as a condition of continued employment):
- CPR/PR Instructor
- First Aid Instructor
- Water Safety Instructor or equivalent learn-to-swim instructor
- Pool Operator
- Lifeguard Training Instructor
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $24.18 - $43.09 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
