What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vegetation Maintenance Technician position at CITY OF TAKOMA PARK?
The City of Takoma Park is seeking a Vegetation Maintenance Technician to join their team maintaining the gardens, parks, bioretention facilities, and other landscaped areas of the City.
Typical duties include:
- Mowing, trimming, and edging grass at parks and City owned facilities April-October;
- Performing gardening tasks following schedules and project plans including hand weeding, pruning, grooming planting, dividing and transplanting, leaf removal, and mulching;
- Performing routine and corrective maintenance on stormwater bioretention facilities;
- Using zero turn mowers, push mowers, and mechanical trimming tools;
- Using a variety of gardening equipment, hand, and power tools;
- Working with a small team to install and water new garden designs;
- Responding to citizen’s questions, comments, and concerns, in a professional manor;
- Litter Removal;
- Clearing snow from sidewalks during snow events.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required to be successful are:
- Ability to report to work during winter weather emergencies
- Ability to work in conditions that include inclement weather (heat, cold, rain), biting or stinging insects, and pollen and other plant irritants.
- Ability to regularly lift and move 30 lbs., squat, and stand for prolonged periods of time
- Ability to work unsupervised
