What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Program Leader II - Childcare Director position at CITY OF TAKOMA PARK?
The City of Takoma Park is looking for an experienced Childcare Director to work for the Recreation Department. The selected candidates will be responsible for planning, leading, and conducting recreation activities for the department's morning and afternoon childcare program at the Takoma Park Recreation Center (7315 New Hampshire Ave) or Takoma Park Community Center (7500 Maple Ave) for youth in kindergarten to fifth grade.The incumbents will be responsible for creating and implementing the daily schedule for participants and the day-to-day leadership of all program staff. The dates for the program will take place over the 2026-2027 Montgomery County Public School Year. The typical work hours vary and can be Monday through Friday, 6:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. and/or 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with occasional half days and school days off throughout the school year. This is a part-time position and not part of the Union. Hourly wage is from 21.73 to 22.95. A first review of resumes is expected to begin on July 31, and will remain open until all positions are filled.
Typical Duties of the position include:

Providing customer service, direct leadership, and general supervision of a childcare program;

Interacting directly with parents, school staff, and Recreation Department staff as required;

Maintaining accurate records of attendance, sign-in/out sheets, participant information forms, permission slips, incident reports, program evaluations, and equipment or supplies inventory;

Positively enforcing discipline by abiding by the Recreation Department Discipline policy;

Providing a clean, safe, and secure environment;

Ensure the maintaining and proper operating of equipment and supplies by participants and staff;

Informing parents of programs, activities, and any other vital information;

Assisting with set-up and break down of the program supplies;

Administering first-aid, as necessary;

Monitoring participants and ensuring the rules are followed, and that the participants’ behavior is appropriate;

Drive City vehicles when needed (must pass a Defensive Driving Course)

Work closely with the supervisor for staffing concerns, general programming and participant concerns.
