Position Description

Tacoma Power is looking to hire an Energy Research and Development Intern to join our Power Management team. This position assists with Power Management work projects through research, analysis, and writing assignments. In this role you will gain valuable work experience in a customer owned power utility and benefit from an opportunity to apply your academic knowledge in a practical environment. This intern position will be tasked with assisting with various Energy Research & Development projects and to help create online tracking and reporting tools. These projects will provide ample opportunities for exposure to modern day issues facing public power utilities. This position will be expected to pursue self-directed research, conduct and summarize quantitative analysis, work as part of a cross-functional and diverse team, present analytic results in verbal and written communications.
The expected duration of the internship is up to 12 months, 40 hours of work per week.

Qualifications

Minimum Education*
High School Diploma or GED

Minimum Experience*
1 year of post-high school training

Desired Experience
Some experience working with science technology and research analysis

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
Depending on assignment, some positions may require a valid Washington State Driver's License

Retirement: All employees of the City, except members of the Police and Fire services, Tacoma Rail and certain project employees, are included in the Tacoma Employees' Retirement System. Other Employment Information

Direct Deposit: Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule by direct deposit.

Salary Increases: Based on satisfactory job performance, the City provides for a regular progression of salary increases for most classifications according to the salary schedule.

Union Affiliation: Many job classifications are covered by union security provisions which require union membership, dues, or payment of equivalent service fees.
