What are the responsibilities and job description for the UTILITY OPERATOR TRAINEE position at City of Surprise, AZ?
The primary function of an employee in this class is to learn to perform technical operations, maintenance, and repair of Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants, Water Production Systems. Incumbents work with certified operators under close supervision. This classification may be subject to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required. This is a training classification in the Wastewater/Water Operations series and is intended as a one-year training program within the Water Resource Management Department. The department may promote the employee to the first level of the Wastewater Operator or Water Operator series once the employee has successfully fulfilled the requirements of the performance development plan in the designated timeframe, meets the minimum requirements and has demonstrated proficiency and independently performs duties of the higher-level classification.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED. No experience required for this position.
Preferred Qualifications: High School coursework in the areas of engineering, computer science, mathematics, natural resources, and/or science. Additional college level coursework or specialized training in water treatment, water distribution, chemistry, biology, or a related field is desirable.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must obtain a Grade 1 Operator Certification from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality within the disciplines of Distribution and Water Treatment within 9 months of hire date.
