The City of Sunrise Finance and Administrative Services Department is seeking an Accounting Intern to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to get real-world experience learning aspects of governmental accounting and gain knowledge of the public sector.

Part Time, Paid Internship
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light physical effort in sedentary to light work, which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials up to twenty pounds. Descending and climbing stairways and extended periods of standing observation may be required during field activities.
Work Environment
Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment. Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
Sensory
The ability to perceive and differentiate visual cues or signals. Tasks require the ability to communicate orally and in writing.

POSITION TYPE

- Hours: Up to 24 hours per week
- Paid internship rate is $15 per hour
- Length of assignment: Up to 12 months

- Intern will perform work assignments assisting the Finance and Administrative Services Department with accounting tasks which may include:
- Assisting with preparing and updating documents supporting reconciliations and accounting transactions
- Assisting with reviewing and preparing a variety of financial, accounting, and budgetary support documents and reports
- Perform statistical analysis
- Assisting with special projects
- Record maintenance via spreadsheet and data entry
- Scanning and filing of documents
- Perform duties as assigned
- Must be currently enrolled on a full or part-time basis at an accredited college or university in Bachelor's or Master's program, majoring in Accounting, or a recent graduate from an accredited college/university possessing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the field of study outlined.
- PROOF OF EDUCATION MUST BE SUBMITTED AS AN ATTACHMENT WITH APPLICATION. (Applications without attached proof of education will not be processed for consideration.)
- Increase knowledge of government accounting.
- Develop planning, organizational, and time management skills.
- Gain hands on experience and have the opportunity to discover if government accounting is the right career to pursue.
- Acquire experience with the Tyler Munis ERP system.
- Enhance interpersonal skills by establishing effective working relationships with supervisors and other employees.
- Learn the policies and procedures within the City of Sunrise

- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including use of formulas, data organization, and analysis tools
- Ability to perform reconciliations, review financial documents for accuracy, and apply accounting principles and terminology
- Ability to conduct research, analyze and summarize data and information, and prepare clear and concise reports
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing on an individual basis as well as in group settings
- Ability to work efficiently and manage varied projects and responsibilities
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, other employees and City officials
- Ability to adapt to provide support on additional projects or assignments as needed
