The Business Compliance Officer I is responsible for conducting inspections and reviews of businesses to ensure compliance with licensing, zoning, and fire safety regulations. This entry-level role supports the City’s efforts to maintain public safety, economic integrity, and regulatory compliance through field inspections, documentation review, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field inspections of new and existing businesses to verify compliance with licensing, zoning, and fire safety regulations.
- Review business license applications for completeness and accuracy.
- Investigate complaints and potential violations related to unlicensed or non-compliant business operations.
- Issue notices of violation and assist in enforcement actions when necessary.
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, findings, and follow-up actions.
- Collaborate with Planning, Zoning, Code Enforcement, and Finance departments to ensure coordinated licensing processes.
- Educate business owners on licensing requirements and fire safety standards.
- Assist in emergency preparedness and hazard identification during inspections.
- Represent the Fire Marshal’s Office in public outreach and community engagement efforts.
