This is beginning level professional and technical work in assisting in development review activities as they relate to the administration of a variety of City planning programs. Work involves conceptual development review, preparing reports and making presentations on land use cases, plan and permit review, zoning and land development regulation interpretation and other code related duties. Work requires the exercise of considerable independent judgment, initiative, ingenuity and tact, and extensive, productive interaction with City officials, other governmental agencies, commissions, boards, and the public, in a fast-paced environment.


Salary: $58,046 - $91,369**


**The starting salary for the position will not exceed Step 9, $77,028.

To Qualify


Minimum Qualifications.
Applicants must:

  • Have a valid Bachelor’s degree in planning or a closely related field.
  • Have experience in customer service, preferably related to planning.
  • Be highly proficient in the use of computers and word processing, database, and spreadsheet software, including the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Possess the presentation and communication skills necessary to lead, educate, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:

  • Have some experience in municipal development review and planning activities.
  • Have some experience in conducting research and writing briefs and reports, preferably related to planning.
  • Have a valid Master’s degree.
  • Possess and maintain the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.
  • Have a basic understanding of statistical concepts and research methodology used in data collection and report presentation.
  • Have a basic understanding of the principles, practices and techniques of city planning, urban design and architecture.
