What are the responsibilities and job description for the Horticultural Specialist I (Sunken Gardens) position at City of St. Petersburg?
This is part-time (approximately 20 hours per week), semi-skilled manual work in the City’s botanical gardens, requiring the application of skills and knowledge above the basic laboring level. Work includes use of specialized hand tools, power tools, and equipment to perform planting, mulching, tree trimming, blowing, mowing, pond maintenance and minor repairs at Sunken Gardens which is open to the general public. Work is primarily outdoors, performing manual labor, occasionally under adverse weather conditions, and could include some basic care of animals such as birds, fish, and turtles. Working hours vary and will include weekends and some holidays.
Salary: $18.08 - $27.01 Hourly

To Qualify
Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:
- Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Possess and continue to maintain a valid Driver License.
- Have one (1) year of experience in landscape maintenance, nursery, or horticulture operations.
- Have some knowledge of plant biology and the common and botanical names of local trees, plants, and flowers.
- Be able to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
- Be available to work varying hours to include weekends and holidays.
Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:
- Have some experience with irrigation systems.
- Have some computer knowledge.
- Are able to perform basic repairs and maintenance of equipment.
