Job Summary: Are you passionate about building and maintaining safe, high-quality infrastructure? The City of St. Peters is looking for a Construction Inspector who takes pride in ensuring every project-from roadways and sidewalks to water lines and storm sewers-is built right. In this hands-on role, you'll be in the field, working closely with contractors, developers, and the public to make sure our city's projects meet the highest standards and comply with City codes and specifications.
Normal Shift: Monday-Friday; 7:30am- 4:00pm
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct field inspections and testing, interpret bid specifications, perform field measurements & keep field books for municipal construction projects.
- Enforce compliance with approved design plans, City ordinances, and specifications.
- Maintain field documentation, prepare reports, and issue corrective action orders as needed.
- Provide technical guidance to developers, contractors, and the public.
- Read and interpret improvement plans - including grading, siltation controls, paving, water lines, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer systems.
- Interpret legal descriptions, research property ownership, and assist with project design.
- Review and issue permit for utility/fiber installations and residential driveways.
- Respond to resident inquiries, concerns, and complaints.
- Participate in emergency City operations as assigned.
- Perform all work in compliance with City safety standards.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. citizen or lawfully authorized alien worker.
- High School graduate or GED certificate and three (3) years of applicable experience.
- Motor Vehicle Operator's license valid in the state of Missouri.
- Ability to lift and handle a minimum of 75 lbs.
- Certification in Traffic Control or obtain within one (1) year.
- Completion of the Missouri APWA (American Public Works Association) construction inspection course within one (1) year.
Desired Qualifications:
- BS degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- American Concrete Institute (ACI) Field Technician Grade I Certification.
- Thorough knowledge of City codes, specifications and ordinances as pertains to public works.
- Considerable knowledge of construction and maintenance methods, materials and equipment employed in municipal public works.
- Knowledge of hydraulics, surveying and contract administration.
- Knowledge of legal descriptions.
- Knowledge of storm water best management practices and erosion control practices.
