Job Summary/Scope
Repairs and maintains wastewater, sludge processing and disposal equipment and systems including pumps, conveyors, gear boxes, belt presses, and outstation equipment. No supervisory or budgetary responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- OBSERVES, TROUBLESHOOTS, REPAIRS and OVERHAULS pumps, valves, mechanical assemblies, and pneumatic assemblies.
- REPAIRS chemical supply delivery pumps and relates sub-assemblies.
- CLEANS work area and job site.
- ADJUSTS, ALIGNS, and INSTALLS pumps, conveyors, hoists, blowers, aerators, gear box assemblies, piping, air lines, heat exchangers and related assemblies.
- MAINTAINS and OVERHAULS water, chemical sludge, grit and refuse removal equipment.
- OPERATES equipment as needed.

PERFORMS all other related duties as assigned.

Required (Essential) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- 3-5 years of prior experience in a related field required.
- Valid State of Missouri driver’s license required.
- Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions.
- Skills in welding and troubleshooting mechanical equipment operating problems.
- Knowledge of hydraulics, and mechanical fabrication.
- Knowledge of safety practices regarding work.
- Ability to sweat plumbing joints.
- Ability to operate torches and welding equipment, hand tools, measuring and testing tools, power tools and safety protective equipment.
- Ability to operate a forklift.
- Visual acuity and good oral communication skills.
Material and Equipment Directly Used
Use of hand tools, small power tools, acetylene and arc welding tools and materials and a forklift. Drives light vehicle. There may be times when use of personal vehicle may be required.
Working Environment/Physical Requirements
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting and frequently sitting, speaking or hearing and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm's length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment, frequently requires exposure to wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires working in high, precarious places, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock and wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Passing of a drug screening required prior to appointment.
