Overview
Under the supervision of the City Superintendent, the Public Works Worker plays a vital role in maintaining and improving municipal infrastructure and public facilities. This position involves performing a variety of manual tasks related to the upkeep of roads, parks, water systems, and other community assets. The ideal candidate is dependable, physically capable, and committed to ensuring the safety and quality of public spaces for residents. Prior experience with electrical or mechanical tools, including the use of an ohmmeter, is preferred but not required. This role offers an opportunity to serve the community while developing valuable skills in public works operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Subject to departmental requirements, certifications, and as needed.
· Performs operations and maintenance of water system, wastewater system, electric system, streets, and parks
· Assists in the construction, installation, repairs and/or maintenance of the water system; to include, but not limited to: water lines, mains, valves, fire hydrants, meters, meter enclosures, taps and all equipment necessary to disperse water
· Maintains departmental records and reports
· Schedules and performs maintenance and operations of departmental equipment
· Establishes and maintains inventory control over departmental equipment, tools and supplies
· Purchases departmental equipment and supplies with Superintendent approval
· Follows safety procedures and practices
· Performs snow removal and plowing
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
· Assists and coordinates with other departments as needed
· Performs other duties as deemed necessary or assigned
· Maintains municipal pool
· May run locates for utility companies, contractors and builders as required by state law
· Installs and maintains seasonal lighting
· Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 75 pounds of weight
· Ability to push, pull, reach, twist, kneel, balance, stand, stoop, squat, bend, walk, paint, load, unload, grip, hold, climb, sweep and spend lengthy time on their feet
· Available as necessary for scheduled call time
· Available as necessary for emergent situations, including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays
