Work Hours: 6:30 am to 3:30pm with Stand-by hoursThe City of St. Cloud is seeking a skilled Fleet Technician / Master Technician to join our Fleet Services Division. This position diagnoses, repairs, and maintains vehicles and mechanical equipment, including automobiles, trucks, small engines, heavy construction equipment, and specialized municipal equipment such as refuse trucks, street sweepers, and sewer cleaning machines. The role reports directly to the Fleet Supervisor.
This position is slotted based on current certifications and experience, but the selected candidate will be expected to meet all requirements of a Master Technician within 12 months.

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
- Diagnose, repair and test engines and drivetrains and their control systems.
- Diagnose, repair and test hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components.
- Diagnose, repair and test electrical systems and components.
- Diagnose, repair and test brake, steering, and suspension systems and components.
- Diagnose, repair and test HVAC systems and components.
- Remove, install, mount, dismount, balance, and repair automotive, truck, trailer, and small equipment tires.
- Install, remove, and repair automotive and truck accessory equipment.
- Prepare new vehicles and equipment for service; prepare surplus vehicles and equipment for disposal.
- Subject to on-call assignment as required; respond to calls for service and repair in the field.
- Perform preventive maintenance and inspection.
- Perform related work as assigned.
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by one (1) to two (2) years professional experience in vehicle repair and maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
ASE or other relevant certification preferred.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida state Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class “B” within 180 days of employment.
Additional requirements for each level:
Fleet Services Technician I ($ 22.81 - $31.49 an hour)
Experience: One (1) year progressively responsible experience in the repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel driven motors, an Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair Technician graduate, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Fire Apparatus Technician - Level 1 and Ambulance Technician - Level 1 Certifications or have the ability to obtain within three (3) years of employment.
Fleet Services Technician II ($23.31 - $33.09 an hour)
Experience: Three (3) years progressively responsible experience in the repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel driven motors and heavy auto equipment, machinery, and tools or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Fire Apparatus Technician - Level 1
- Ambulance Fire Apparatus Technician - Level 1
- Law Enforcement Vehicle Technician Certification – Level 1
- Fire Apparatus Technician - Level 2 or Ambulance Technician - Level 2
Fleet Services Technician III ($24.49 - $34.77 an hour)
Experience: Five (5) years progressively responsible experience in the repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel driven motors and heavy auto equipment, machinery, and tools or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Fire Apparatus Technician - Level 1
- Ambulance Technician - Level 1
- Law Enforcement Vehicle Technician Certification – Level 1
- Fire Apparatus Technician - Level 2
- Ambulance Technician - Level 2
Master Fleet Services Technician ($27.05 - $38.40 an hour)
Experience: Six (6) years progressively responsible experience in the repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel driven motors and heavy auto equipment, machinery, and tools or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

- Ambulance Technician - Level 1
