What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Technician position at City of Springfield (MO)?
The current vacancies are in the Public Works/Environmental Services Department.
This position is being posting with the option to underfill as a Accounting Services Representative.
The Accounting Technician coordinates and maintains various types of accounting information required for the City's financial reporting system as well as department specific systems and prepares various summaries, for both internal and external use, from this information.
The Accounting Technician with Public Works/Environmental Services will review and approve various accounting transactions, prepare journal entries, provide accounting guidance to departmental staff, provide oversight of department inventories, and accounting and budgeting projects & research as assigned.
The Accounting Technician with the Finance Department works with City Departments to ensure records are adequately prepared and maintained to document work performed by City employees. The position requires a thorough knowledge of state and federal laws in addition to City merit rules and administrative memorandums related to payroll and benefits.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting;
- At least one year of appropriate Accounting experience;
- A Bachelor's Degree in Business, or other closely related field, with a minor or equivalent college credit hours in Accounting;
- Three years of appropriate Accounting experience;
- Directly related experience may be substituted for the formal education requirement on a year-for-year basis, plus a minimum of 15 credit hours in Accounting coursework from an accredited college.
Experience, Education, and Training ( If underfilled as an Accounting Services Representative)
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance;
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, or other closely related field, with at least 15 credit hours in accounting;
- Directly related work experience may be substituted for the formal education on a year-for-year basis, plus a minimum of 15 credit hours in Accounting coursework from an accredited college.
- Experience in payroll and/or government accounting depending on assignment.
