The City of Spokane Water Department is looking for temp-seasonal workers to be a part of our winning team, contributing to the success of our city.
This is a Temporary/Seasonal position that will work up to 40 hours per week and typically last for 6-months in duration. This work is heavy in nature, performed in varying weather conditions, and requires normal attention to prevent errors.
The following Responsibilities and Requirements are functions the individual who holds or desires the position must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Experience in grounds maintenance is helpful but not mandatory (IE: mowing, weedeatng, edging, trimming bushes, maintaining planter boxes and beds, and installing sod.)
- Experience in irrigation is helpful but not mandatory.
- Assists in the maintenance of sprinkler systems and performs work in conjunction with the remodeling of systems currently in operation.
- Repairs and replaces sprinkler heads and related irrigation and sprinkler equipment is helpful but not required.
- Equipment repair and maintenance of tools.
- Be able to follow instructions and work independently.
- Operates automotive equipment and a two-way radio.
- Performs related work as required.
- Willing to learn and be trained.
- Knowledge of methods, tools, equipment, and materials used in which work is assigned.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions.
- Ability to get along with fellow employees.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to read and understand manuals and specifications.
- Ability to operate motor vehicles.
- Ability to see, with or without corrective lenses, well enough to read fine print such as irrigation maps.
- Ability to hear, with or without a hearing aid, and speak well enough to converse on a two-way radio.
- Enough body mobility to crawl into confined areas.
- Enough strength to lift and carry 100 lbs.
- Enough stamina to stand, kneel, and crouch for up to four hours at a me with only one 15-minute break.
- Tolerance to work under adverse outdoor conditions.
- Applicants must be over 18 years of age.
- Must posses a valid Driver’s License without restrictions.
