Description
The purpose of this position is to participate in crew operations to maintain parks and downtown areas for the City of Spartanburg and is responsible for providing the maintenance and upkeep of grounds and landscaping. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Examples of Duties
- Mows grass along parkways by operating bobcat mower; trims and edges parkways using string trimmer.
- Operates push mowers, bushhogs, sweepers, and offset mowers.
- Trims hedges, trims other landscaping, and mows grass.
- Shovels and clears sidewalks and walkways of snow during winter months.
- Operates a variety of machinery and equipment in the performance of duties such as bobcat, pickup truck, siring trimmer, sweepers.
- Utilizes a variety of tools such as wrenches, grease guns, rakes, shovels, picks, swing blades, bush axes, etc.
- Assists with special events and projects.
- Assists in moving and arranging furniture for special events.
- Performs minor, job related, maintenance on equipment.
- Receives and handles complaints providing assistance, information, and solutions as needed.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate of competency.
- Driver’s License
Supplemental Information
Pay depends upon experience and qualifications. Starting pay rate is $14.84 per hour.
