Description
The Public Works Department has an opening for MEO II. The position will work in street, asphalt repair work, and concrete repair, form and finishing; operate dump trucks and heavy equipment.
Examples of Duties
- Transports personnel and equipment to work sites.
- Repairs potholes and cuts in streets by utilizing jack hammer, shovel, pick, tamp, saw, hammer; patches potholes and street cuts with asphalt; repairs driveways as required; repairs gas cuts.
- Operates dump trucks, bob cat, and trailer.
- Loads and hauls dirt, rock, sidewalk forms.
- Hauls forms, materials and bobcat on trailer as needed.
- Assists co-workers in setting forms, removing sidewalks, and curbs, grading soil in preparation of pouring concrete, pouring, grading and leveling concrete.
- Assists in clearing ditches, right-of-ways, sweeping, cleaning vacant and occupied lots; cleans out and/or builds catch basins, lays drainage pipe.
- Utilizes shovels, sledge hammers, claw hammers, steel forms, etc. in removing, grading, pouring and leveling concrete.
- Utilizes weed eater, chain saws, swing blades, etc. in clearing and cleaning sites and lots.
- Manages the machines or equipment in a safe and secure way.
- Performs periodic safety, maintenance or servicing checks to ensure proper functioning of the equipment.
- Performs a wide variety of general and preventative maintenance and repair work.
- Receives and handles complaints providing assistance, information, and solutions as needed.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED; experience and/or training in operations of heavy equipment, and various other small equipment.
- Must possess and maintain a valid SC Driver's license, CDL Class B.
Supplemental Information
Salary depends upon experience. Starting salary is $37,481.60 annually.
