The Civil Service Commission of the City of South St. Paul is accepting applications to establish an eligible register for the position of Police Officer. The January 1st, 2026, Top Patrol annual salary for this position is $109,886 benefits. Lateral transfers are encouraged and may be compensated in accordance with prior qualifying law enforcement experience.
All applicants must be currently P.O.S.T. licensed, eligible to be licensed, or scheduled to complete a P.O.S.T. approved Skills course by September 1st, 2026, and obtain P.O.S.T. eligibility by October 1st, 2026. Current City of South St. Paul employees who will be P.O.S.T. eligible by February 1st, 2027, may also apply. Candidates must pass oral examination(s), physical agility testing, physical and psychological examinations, and an extensive background investigation. - Possess a driver’s license valid in the State of Minnesota
- P.O.S.T. licensed in Minnesota, eligible to be licensed in Minnesota, or scheduled to complete a P.O.S.T. approved Skills course by September 1st, 2026, and obtain P.O.S.T. eligibility by October 1st, 2026 (current South St. Paul City Employees are eligible to take the examination if able to demonstrate they are scheduled for POST eligibility during the life of the eligible register).
