What are the responsibilities and job description for the Library Assistant position at City of South Sioux City?
The City of South Sioux City, Nebraska, is seeking a bi-lingual, part-time Library Assistant. The qualified individual will assist patrons with locating and using all library materials and information, including, but not limited to print and online resources; patron use of library specific software applications, MS Office applications, reference tools, internet use, emailing, and database searching. Will also answer the telephone and provide assistance or direct call to appropriate personnel for assistance.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
Circulates materials and performs other transactions on automated systems;
Shelves materials and regularly shelf reads assigned areas;
Keeps library in orderly manner;
Assists in the planning of library programming;
Assists with all day-to-day library activities;
Other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Must be responsible, dependable, accurate, organized, neat, flexible, have initiative, and work well with others. Experience using computers, MS Office applications and a desire or willingness to continue learning new electronic software/programs. Should have good people and communication skills, a broad- based knowledge background and problem-solving skills and be familiar with libraries.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Lifting, climbing, bending, and carrying.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Multilingual in English and Spanish.
Must be able to pass the Library Technology Test with the first 6 months of employment.
