What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full-Time Building and Grounds Maintenance Technician position at City of South Sioux City?
The City of South Sioux City is seeking an individual with experience in building maintenance and grounds maintenance to join our team.
Summary: This position requires knowledge of plumbing, heating/cooling, electrical, carpentry, snow removal, and grounds maintenance. Experience in operating a variety of light equipment, small hand tools and operating a small tractor is preferred. Must be able to deal tactfully and courteously with the public. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be able to obtain a CDL, pesticide license and herbicide license with time and training to acquire said licenses supported by the City. Must be able to work in a variety of climate conditions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Performing preventative maintenance, repairs, and routine building inspections
- Replacing broken fixtures and hardware
- Assisting with painting and wall repair
- Assisting with landscape maintenance
- Scheduling and supervising maintenance repair work
- Arranging for routine maintenance in plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC, appliances, and other areas of the building maintenance
- Repair fences, gates, walls, and walks, paint fences and outbuildings.
- Sharpen tools such as weed cutters, edging tools, and shears.
- Makes minor repairs on equipment such as lawn mower and snow removal equipment.
- Plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs, waters lawns and shrubs; spray lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides.
- Shovels snow from walks and driveways. Spreads salt on public passageways to prevent ice buildup.
- Ensuring a clean and safe workplace.
Preference shall be given to eligible veterans, service members, and eligible spouses seeking initial or return (unless terminated for disciplinary reasons) employment with the City of South Sioux City.
