The City of South Sioux City is seeking a full time and two part time seasonal groundskeepers to maintain the South Ridge Golf Course grounds.
The Golf Course Groundskeeper performs routine and skilled maintenance work necessary for the upkeep, appearance, and playability of the golf course. Duties include grounds maintenance, operation of equipment, and general facility support to ensure safe, attractive, and high-quality playing conditions for patrons.
Essential Functions and Duties
- Maintains golf course greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and surrounding grounds through mowing, trimming, edging, aerating, top dressing, and fertilizing.
- Operates and maintains motorized and non-motorized equipment, including mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, sprayers, and hand tools.
- Assists with irrigation system operation, repair, and seasonal adjustments.
- Performs general groundskeeping tasks such as debris removal, bunker raking, tree trimming, and landscape maintenance.
- Applies fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides in accordance with safety regulations and licensing requirements.
- Monitors turf conditions and reports diseases, pests, or irrigation issues to the supervisor.
- Assists with course setup, including cup cutting, tee marker placement, and signage.
- Performs minor building and facility maintenance as needed.
- Maintains a safe working environment and follows all City safety policies and procedures.
- Provides courteous interaction with golfers and the general public.
- Works early mornings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required during peak season.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of turf maintenance practices and golf course operations.
- Ability to safely operate and maintain lawn and groundskeeping equipment.
- Basic understanding of irrigation systems preferred.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to perform manual labor in varying weather conditions.
- Strong attention to safety and detail.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in golf course or turf maintenance.
- Experience operating agricultural or turf equipment.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying objects up to 50 pounds. Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and rain. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, chemicals, and noise associated with equipment operation.
