Essential Responsibilities And Duties
- Prepares designs for engineering projects in accordance with general engineering principles and South Salt Lake City Standards. Under direct supervision, may be required to work on larger projects individually or as a member of a team.
- Checks project plans, calculations and project parameters. Investigates and corrects field problems and suggests extra work orders of relatively routine nature. Drafts project drawings and specifications.
- May supervise engineering technicians actively involved in projects and may serve as project engineer or engineering project manager on engineering projects.
- Calculates pricing and payment amounts which should be made to contractors.
- Prepares reports of work done and project status.
- Assists with completion of appropriate project documents, bidding procedures and meets periodically with departmental staff to outline project status.
- As a South Salt Lake City representative, may be required to meet with contractors onsite or in the office.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering equivalent from a fully accredited college or university and one year paid work experience in civil engineering.
- Engineer in training certificate.
- Valid Utah driver's license or driving privilege card.
- Ability to utilize computers in engineering applications, prepare and present routine reports in written and oral form.
- Must be able to effectively communicate and work well with subordinates, supervisors, co-workers, contractors and the public.
- Ability to perform field analysis and make correct engineering decisions.
