The City of South Portland is currently seeking a 37.5 hour a week (four-day workweek) full-time Purchasing Agent to join our Finance Department. This is an opportunity to join a well-run city and play a part in serving our community with further opportunities for professional growth.
Position Summary: The Purchasing Agent is responsible for work in managing and coordinating all activities of the municipal purchasing function including assisting City departments in the preparation of technical specifications and preparing bid/RFP documents. Ensures compliance with Federal procurement and contracting regulations. Works closely with departments and legal counsel on procurement and contracting issues. Administers the City’s purchasing card program. Responsible for oversight of the City's purchasing activities according to legal and administrative rules and regulations. This position has no direct support staff so must handle all administrative duties required.
Education: Education and training in Public Procurement preferred; other education and experience will be evaluated against the requirements of the position. Preference for Certified Public Procurement Professional (CPP), Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB) or Certified Public Purchasing Officer (CPPO), through the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP).
Experience: Extensive experience in managing procurement of a broad spectrum of goods and services, particularly in a governmental setting.

Salary Range: $78,487-$89,466 annually depending on experience. This position is eligible for annual step increases, and possible annual cost of living increases as approved by the City Council.
