CITY OF SODA SPRINGS NOW HIRING: WATER/WASTEWATER TECHNICIAN

Position: Water/Wastewater Technician

Reports To: Water/Wastewater Superintendent

Employment Type: Full-Time

Pay: $ 21.00 per hour, DOE

POSITION SUMMARY

The City of Soda Springs is seeking a dependable and motivated Water/Wastewater Technician to join the Water/Wastewater Department.

This position performs skilled work related to operating, maintaining, repairing, and monitoring the City’s drinking water system, wastewater collection system, and wastewater treatment plant. The position also operates heavy equipment, responds to service calls, performs routine maintenance, and assists with a variety of water and wastewater projects.

The successful applicant must be willing to learn, work as part of a team, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and continue education and training to obtain required State of Idaho certifications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Water and Sewer Systems

* Install new water service lines, including excavation and basic piping.

* Install new water and sewer main lines as needed.

* Locate and repair leaking water and sewer lines.

* Install, test, inspect, and maintain fire hydrants.

* Perform routine maintenance and inspections of water and wastewater system components.

* Respond to service calls, customer concerns, and complaints.

Wastewater Treatment

* Perform routine checks and monitoring at the wastewater treatment plant.

* Take readings and perform calculations related to plant operations and usage.

* Monitor the operating condition of motors, pumps, compressors, and other equipment.

* Collect and prepare water and wastewater samples.

* Perform routine laboratory analysis of water and wastewater.

* Assist with maintaining the safe and efficient operation of the wastewater treatment plant.

Equipment and General Maintenance

* Operate various types of heavy equipment, including backhoes, loaders, skid steers, dump trucks, snowplows, and related equipment.

* Perform basic maintenance of tools, vehicles, machinery, and equipment.

* Perform routine maintenance checks in all areas while assigned to weekend duty.

* Assist with fabrication and repairs, including basic cutting and welding of metal.

* Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Teamwork and Customer Service

* Work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment.

* Respond professionally to calls, complaints, and community concerns.

* Demonstrate a willingness to learn new skills and assume additional responsibilities as required.

* Follow applicable safety procedures, operating practices, and City policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The successful applicant should possess the following:

* High school diploma or equivalent.

* Basic understanding of municipal water and wastewater systems.

* Good understanding of basic mathematics and chemistry for analysis and calculations.

* Ability to perform physical work associated with water and wastewater operations.

* Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

* Ability to work in confined spaces when required.

* Ability to operate or learn to operate heavy equipment.

* Basic cutting and welding skills for fabrication and repairs.

* Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

* Ability and willingness to learn new skills and responsibilities.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Commercial Driver's License -- Class B CDL with air brake endorsement, or the ability to obtain the required license within the first year of employment.

Water/Wastewater Certification

Class 1 or higher water or wastewater certification, or the ability to obtain a

Class 1 certification within the first 18 months of employment.

Employees will be required to continue their education and training until the State of Idaho-required certification levels are met, including:

Class 4 Wastewater Treatment

Class 2 Drinking Water Distribution

Class 1 Wastewater Collection

The City of Soda Springs will cover the costs of obtaining and furthering the employee's required education and certifications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding work safely. Applicants must be physically and mentally able to perform the essential functions of the position, including:

* Bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, and pulling.

* Climbing, kneeling, and crawling.

* Working in confined spaces.

* Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.

* Grasping and manipulating tools and equipment.

* Seeing and communicating effectively.

* Working outdoors in all weather conditions.

* Performing manual labor and operating equipment for extended periods as required.

EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The City of Soda Springs is committed to developing qualified Water/Wastewater Department employees.

The successful applicant will be expected to continue education and training in the water and wastewater fields and obtain the required State of Idaho certifications.

All costs associated with obtaining and furthering required education and certifications will be provided by the employer.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD

The successful applicant will be subject to completion of a standard one-year probationary period.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position involves working in a variety of outdoor and industrial environments and may require exposure to weather conditions, wastewater facilities, underground utilities, construction areas, heavy equipment, machinery, and confined spaces.

Employees are expected to perform their duties safely, professionally, and in accordance with City policies and applicable regulations.
