What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parking Patrol position at City of Sioux Falls?
As a Parking Enforcement Officer, you will be the eyes on the street, responsible for enforcing city parking regulations, including monitoring streets, public sidewalks, and crosswalks to ensure safe and accessible use. Your role will help maintain the flow of traffic, create parking turn over and ensure pedestrian safety.
1. In support of the Parking Authority Liaison (PAL) Program, patrol by foot and/or a motorized vehicle on City streets and in the public parking ramps and lots; check for parking violations, including overtime parking, prohibited parking, improper parking, and snow alerts, and issue parking tickets for those violations.
2. Respond to snow alert duty when a snow alert has been issued, patrolling designated areas and routes, and when necessary, ticketing and arranging for towing of illegally parked vehicles.
3. Locate vehicles on the approved tow list for unpaid parking tickets, notify Metro Communications of location, and arrange for the vehicle to be towed.
4. Answer questions, respond to concerns or complaints, and educate the public regarding nonmoving violation ordinances.
5. Report broken sidewalks, traffic hazards, malfunctioning meters, obscured signs, or any obstruction or unsafe conditions affecting the public to the proper authority or department.
6. Perform other such duties and functions as are necessary or incidental to the proper performance of this position.
Graduation from high school or GED certification with a minimum of one (1) years’ experience in customer service; or any such combination of education, experience, and training as may be acceptable to the hiring authority.
Must possess or be able to obtain prior to hire a valid driver’s license.
Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to provide quality customer service while utilizing a friendly and approachable demeanor with the public.
Ability to maintain calm, tactful, and effective in confrontational situations.
Proficiency with computer usage.
Knowledge of or ability to learn the Sioux Falls major streets and landmarks to navigate around the city parking time zones and for parking enforcement activities during a snow alert and for investigating sidewalk snow complaints.
