The City of Simi Valley, Home of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, was incorporated in 1969. It is a General Law City with a Council/Manager form of government. Simi Valley encompasses an area of 41.7 square miles and is located in the southeast portion of Ventura County. The current estimated population is 126,414, yet Simi Valley maintains a unique balance of open space and City amenities.

Description

The City of Simi Valley is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Community Services Manager to help shape the future of the Simi Valley Senior Center. From coordinating innovative programs and memorable events to supervising staff, managing facility operations, and cultivating community partnerships, you'll play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for our senior community. This is an exciting opportunity for a collaborative leader who is passionate about public service and committed to creating an inclusive, engaging, and vibrant community for older adults.

Position Details:

Salary Range: $81,574.00 - $99,321.00 Annually Excellent Benefits

Status: Full‑time, Regular

Work Schedule: Employees may choose between a 9/80 schedule with alternating Mondays or Fridays off, or a traditional 5/40 schedule (Monday–Friday), subject to departmental needs.


Minimum Qualifications:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training:

  • Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in community services, business administration, or a related field

Experience:

  • Two years of experience coordinating community service programs.
  • Experience directly related to the position is highly desirable.

Job Description:

Assistant Community Services Manager

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Experience managing community programs, special events, and facility operations, with strong project management and organizational skills to successfully balance multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality public services.
  • Experience supporting boards, commissions, or nonprofit governing bodies, including preparing agendas, reports, presentations, and facilitating effective board meetings.
  • A passion for serving older adults by developing inclusive, engaging programs that enhance quality of life and strengthen community connections.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparing reports, presentations, correspondence, promotional materials, and agenda packets for diverse audiences.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills, building productive relationships with participants, volunteers, community partners, elected officials, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, supervise, coach, and develop staff and volunteers while fostering a positive, accountable workplace culture.
  • Experience developing and managing budgets, monitoring expenditures, and ensuring responsible stewardship of public funds and organizational resources.
  • Ability to build collaborative partnerships with community organizations, volunteers, vendors, City departments, public agencies, and healthcare or nonprofit partners.
  • Creative and analytical problem-solving skills, developing innovative programs, improving services, making sound decisions, and adapting to changing community needs.
  • Professionalism, integrity, political acumen, and accountability, with a commitment to inclusive leadership and exceptional public service.
  • Knowledge of marketing, public outreach, and community engagement strategies that increase program participation, awareness, and access to services.
