What are the responsibilities and job description for the SUSTAINABLE CITY COMMITTEE COMMUNITY MEMBER position at City of Signal Hill?
The City of Signal Hill Sustainable City Committee has three (3) Community Member vacancies. The appointees shall serve the completion of a one-year term of office commencing May 1, 2026 and will conclude June 30, 2027. These are unpaid positions. The Sustainable City Committee (SCC) serves as an advisory body to the City Council on matters related to environmental sustainability. The SCC is an ad-hoc committee comprised of community members, elected, and appointed officials.
City Council will appoint members at a regular meeting on either Tuesday, April 14, 2026 or Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
The Sustainable City Committee of the City of Signal Hill welcomes applications for the role of a community member.
Signal Hill is committed to striking a balance between economic growth, social responsibility, and environmental well-being by partnering with our neighbors, businesses, and the community to provide a healthy and enduring environment for future generations. The City Council has identified a need for the Sustainable City Committee to study, evaluate, and develop recommendations and best practices for a proposed privately operated farmer’s market that promotes sustainability, health, and wellness. The committee is expected to prepare and submit their recommendations and present to City Council in February 2027.
Committee meetings are scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of February, May, October and the August meeting is typically held on the first Thursday of the month. Consistent member attendance is a critical component of the committee’s success. Members are expected to prioritize attendance at all scheduled meetings and to dedicate sufficient time to complete assignments and responsibilities outside of regular meeting times.
Community Member: Candidates must be residents of the City of Signal Hill, shall continue to reside in the City for the duration of the term, and be at least 18 years of age.
Appointments will be determined at the regular meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 or Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

Each applicant shall have a demonstrated concern for, and desire to sustain and improve, the status of natural resources and the environment of the City. Applicants may have personal, volunteer, professional experience or scholarly expertise in environmental fields, geology, hydrology, land use planning, ecology, biology or in fields relating to the social, economic or environmental aspects of the City.
