What are the responsibilities and job description for the Swimming Instructor position at City of Shoreview?
* Hiring for all shifts listed; higher priority for Monday-Thursday shifts *
Enjoy working with kids and teaching others? No previous teaching experience is needed. We train all staff on our swimming program teaching methods. We have weekend morning (generally 8:15am-12n) and weekday (4:45pm-8pm) shifts available. We are looking for instructors for all shifts; weeknight availability preferred.
Shoreview employs 20 - 25 Swimming Instructors, depending on the season, to teach swimming lessons to all ages at the Shoreview Community Center.
Group lessons are 40 minutes and private lessons are 30 minutes. In addition to scheduled lessons, staff must attend training meetings held throughout the year.
- Arrive on time for shift
- Teach swim strokes and water safety rules to various age groups
- Observe swimmers and pool area and respond to unsafe conditions
- Enforce all facility policies, rules and regulations
- Regularly participate in training sessions and meetings
- Maintain timesheet with accurate number of hours worked
- Find substitute to work shift if a planned absence is necessary
- Other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Manager, Aquatics Supv/Coord/Specialist, or Pool Coord
Swimming instructor experience preferred but not required. We will train.
Must be at least 15 years old.FALL/WINTER/SPRING CLASS HOURS *
Monday – Thursday: 4:45 - 8:00 pm
Saturday: 8:15 am - 12 noon
Sunday: 8:15 am – 12 noon; and 6 - 8 pm

Please Note: We operate a year-round, indoor pool. Applicants that are available to work beyond a single season are given a higher priority for interviews.
***Swim instructor training is delivered through a combination of online and in-person training. Employees are compensated at a rate of $11.25 per hour for swim instructor training.
