Schedule: This position is scheduled to work Saturday through Wednesday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM.
DEFINITION To perform a variety of semi-skilled work in the construction, maintenance and repair of park equipment and facilities; to operate a variety of park maintenance vehicles, equipment and tools; and to perform a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility; basic landscaping maintenance including planting, trimming, watering, mowing, raking, clearing debris; preparation of ball fields, tennis courts and shelters; trash pick-up and graffiti clean-up; inspect parks and facilities for damage, vandalism, broken equipment or hazardous conditions; assist in tree removal; operate a variety of vehicles, gas powered equipment or power tools.
This is the entry level class in the Park Maintenance Worker series. This class is distinguished from the Park Maintenance Worker II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the series including basic maintenance and work under the guidance of a Parks Maintenance Worker II or Senior Parks Maintenance Worker.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Essential Functions:
- Perform basic maintenance, repair and landscaping duties in City parks, grounds, and related facilities.
- Perform a variety of duties in the planting and maintenance of landscaped areas consisting of bushes, trees, flowers, shrubs, and lawns; water, mow, weed, trim, renovate, and fertilize lawns; rake leaves and clear debris from walks, fields, courts, and other facilities.
- Install, repair, and inspect playground equipment, fences and other related parks equipment and facilities.
- Operate and maintain landscaping and maintenance equipment including City vehicles, turf mowers, blowers, weed eaters, chippers, sprayers and power tools.
- Maintain landscaped areas; apply fertilizers and pesticides as needed.
- Maintain athletic fields; clean and maintain tennis courts; clean and prepare shelters in parks.
- Inspect parks for damage, vandalism, broken equipment or hazardous conditions and report findings to supervisor.
- Pick up trash and remove litter from all City parks and grounds; perform graffiti clean-up.
- Perform routine maintenance on all park drinking fountains.
- Understand and adhere to safe work practices and procedures.

Be available to respond to emergencies and natural disasters (including weather events) both during and outside of regular working hours.

Experience and Training Guidelines
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
One year of park maintenance, landscaping, groundskeeping or similar experience.
Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
License/Certificate:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid first aid/CPR certificate.
Possession of valid state-issued driver's license with an acceptable driving record according to the City’s Using City Vehicles administrative policy linked here.
Possession of valid flagging certification.

Remote Work Eligibility
