About the Position
Under the general direction of the Director of Senior Services, the Café Coordinator oversees all activities necessary to the operation of the Uptown Social Café. Primary responsibilities include monthly menu planning, purchasing supplies and maintaining inventory, preparing the meals, and cleaning the Café daily. It is imperative job duties are performed with respect, integrity, objectivity and in the best interest of the City.
- Safely prepare nutritious meals for Uptown Social members.
- Plan the monthly menu and budget and shop accordingly.
- Thoroughly clean kitchen facility daily.
- Mentor and work with volunteers and members; educate on preparation of healthy meals.
- Maintain Café expenses while focusing on designing nutritious, affordable meals and reducing food waste.
- Responsible for ensuring all food is fresh and within “best by date” and mitigating potential cross contamination or other food safety concerns.
- Follow safety parameters as outlined by the Sheboygan County Health Department.
- Answer all guest/member questions regarding menu, recipes, and ingredients.
- Provide excellent customer service to all guests and members.
- Occasionally prepare food for other Uptown Social events.

Work Environment
On a frequent basis, must have the ability to use fine motor skills while cooking. Ability to lift boxes/ingredients weighing up to 25 pounds. Requires the operation of kitchen appliances and equipment such as oven, stove, etc. Must have the ability to stand, reach, and bend on a frequent basis. Semifrequent exposure to cleaning chemicals/pungent odors. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
- At least one year working in the food or hospitality industry required.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid driver's license and insurance in accordance with State of Wisconsin law required.
- Certification in food safety and sanitation preferred.
