The City of Seattle is seeking an experienced and collaborative warehouse professional to join our operation. In this role, the employee will be a key member of a small, high-performing team responsible for picking up surplus materials, receiving and issuing deliveries of copy paper, City records, and surplus property between City departments and designated warehouse locations.

FAS is often the public's first interaction with the City of Seattle, operating as a customer-focused front door that assists with everything from paying utilities or reporting a pothole to requesting public information or even adopting a new pet.

- Receives incoming stock, checks and counts items received against invoices, packing slips or bills of lading, inspects the materials for quality and damage, documents receipts, stores stock shipments.
- Pickup surplus materials from City departments.
- Performs routine recordkeeping and related clerical duties.
- Keeps storage area of warehouse neat and in order to maintain a safe work environment.
- Drives a 26,000 GVW truck or delivery van to transport and deliver materials.
- Supports maintenance of surplus store stock and assists the Inventory Technician in organizing surplus inventory.
- Operates a variety of warehouse equipment and machinery including forklift, pallet jack, scissor lift, hand trucks.
- Works directly with City department personnel and the public regarding surplus items.
- Performs other related duties of comparable level and type as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Requires a minimum of six months of warehousing experience or related clerical experience (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class.)
- Must possess or obtain Washington State Driver's License and have satisfactory driving record.
- Washington State Forklift and Scissor Lift Operations Certification within 30 days of employment.
- Requires basic computer skills with Microsoft Office suites and applications.
- At least 1 year of Receiving and Inventory systems experience, preferably with Counterpoint.
(Or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class.)
The most successful candidates will possess the following:
- At least one year of warehousing experience.
- At least one year of experience with a variety of material handling equipment including forklifts, powered pallet jacks and scissor lifts.
- Self-starter with the ability to work well independently and as a member of a team.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with the public and a diverse workforce.
- Have a good understanding of computer usage with Microsoft Office and applications.
- Experience providing customer service in sales or cashier roles.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
- This position requires full-time onsite work.
- This position requires the employee to stand, climb, walk or bend, squat, kneel, or work overhead, for extended periods of time.
- Required to frequently lift objects up to 100 pounds as part of essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Requires occasional outdoor work in all types of weather.
This position is classified as a Warehouser. It is Civil Service represented, FLSA non-exempt and is eligible for overtime. The full range for this step-progression position is $37.44 - $40.46 per hour.
