Position Overview:
SDOT has an exciting opportunity for a Paving Crew Chief on our Maintenance team within the MOD Division. These experienced professionals will perform structural concrete repair work such as breaking out, removing, and replacing concrete on roadways, ADA ramps, sidewalks, and curbs. You will also be part of a skilled snow and ice team helping keep the city of Seattle mobile. Come help keep Seattle moving!
The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) is a nationally recognized municipal transportation agency at the leading edge of multi-modal transportation. SDOT’s core responsibilities include maintenance and operations of the city's transportation right-of-way, the expansion of the city's bicycle and pedestrian network, permitting use of public spaces and enhancing access to the regional transit system. With approximately 1,100 dedicated staff, SDOT maintains an operational presence 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in all weather conditions to serve and ensure Seattle’s public mobility.
Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday from 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM.
Labors.
•Submits written plans, cost estimates, and detailed reports within set deadlines; interprets and follows written and oral instructions; understand and applies departmental policies and procedures, union contracts, OSHA, WOSHA, and departmental rules and procedures.
•Determines and maintains accurate daily crew reports on crew, material, and equipment
needs.
•Ability to read and interpret plan specifications related to ramp projects and street repairs.
•Basic computer skills (word processing, electronic mail).
•Familiarity with various computer programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, Hansen Work
Management),
• Experience with complex scheduling of multiple projects, organizing and prioritizing skills abilities.
•Inspect work site prior to scheduling to determine site readiness, locate marks, plan layouts etc.
•Schedule on-site pre-con meeting with asset owners to determine plan scope, limits, and impacts.
•Inspects worksites to ensure appropriate quality work, coordinates with other sections to ensure continuity of work progress, and ensures that work environment, tools, and
equipment comply with state and federal regulations.
•Coordinates paving projects with other field activities within the street right-of-way.
•Coordinates street repairs with utilities such as SPU, SCL, and PSE.
•Good communication skills (written and oral), ability to read and understand the City of
Seattle standard plans and specifications pertaining to street paving.
• Trains crew members on new work procedures, safety processes, and protocols
•Knows and understands proper Best Management Practices for environmental compliance.
•Respond to weather emergencies such as snow and ice, landslides, and windstorms
•Supports departmental goals in promoting diversity and social justice in keeping with the City’s Race and Social Justice Initiative.
•Be a lead in snow and ice response, and city emergency response.

Four years of public works experience including one year of asphalt or concrete paving operations experience or equivalent in any type of construction, installation, inspection, maintenance, repair, material transportation or materials application work relating to public works, public utilities and/or public facilities
OR An equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the position's duties.
Though there are no requirements, strong candidates will have some of the following experience or are able to describe comparable experience:
•One year of experience leading concrete crews.
•One year of experience as a cement finisher OR one-year related experience in concrete construction, installation, and repair.
•Perficient reading blueprints, job layout, and traffic control set up.
•Perficient in forming ADA ramps, sidewalks, and road panels.
•Ability to effectively work in a multi-cultural workplace with a diverse customer base.
•Ability to obtain a flagger card within 6 months
•Knowledge of the five major components of concrete
•Knowledge of the Right of Way Restoration Rules (ROWRR)
•Knowledge of the in-street manual
•Knowledge of cross slopes for sidewalks and ADA Ramps
•Understanding of SDOT Safety Policy.

•Required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time.
•Frequently required to lift objects in excess of 50 pounds.
•Occasionally requires handling or working with toxic/hazardous substances.
•Required to work outdoors in all types of weather around moving traffic.
License, Certification, and Other Requirements:
•Current Washington State driver's license.

The full salary range for this position is $47.73 - $51.58 per hour.
