The Energy Delivery Operations Division is recruiting for a Landscape Supervisor in the division's Vegetation Management unit. This position will supervise a staff of 6 gardeners, to include daily assignments and long-term planning, for City Light's landscape needs and responsibilities at both the North and South Service Centers. This position will report to the Vegetation Management Manager.

Job Responsibilities - Here is more about what you’ll be doing: 

  • Make daily personnel assignments and perform administrative and field supervisory work to coordinate the day to day operations. 
  • Prepare and process personnel and equipment reports, personnel evaluations and feedback, payroll and timekeeping information, progress reports, and work orders. 
  • Visit the work site to monitor jobs for progress and completion of plans, work orders, materials, and the use of specialized equipment to ensure conformance to safe work practices. 
  • Coordinate with property owners, real property agents, or other governmental agencies to perform maintenance or restoration projects and plan, assign, and dispatch crews to respond to trouble calls. 
  • Act as the department's field representative to property owners and other jurisdictions. Respond to and resolves customer complaints, problems, or claims. 
  • Schedule, recommend, and implement training programs for staff to follow (including safety training). 
  • Comply with City-wide safety programs and strive to maintain an accident-free environment. 
  • Resolve personnel issues. 
  • Conduct quarterly and annual performance reviews of staff. 
  • Review departmental operations and recommend changes to management. 
  • Promote quality and customer service. 
  • Performs other duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.
 

Required Qualifications:

In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has: 

  • Four years progressively responsible experience in grounds maintenance, gardening, landscaping or nursery including one year at the supervisory or lead level (Combinations of education, training and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability).
  • Work Environment/Physical Demands
  • Routinely works outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Most work is performed in a normal City work/office environment.
  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods.


License, Certification and Other Requirements

  • Current Washington State driver's license. 
  • Current Washington State Public Pesticide operator's license and Pesticide Consultant's license.



Desired Qualifications - You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:

  • Three years' experience resolving complex personnel and labor relations issues through knowledge and understanding of Personnel Rules, multiple contractual agreements, and established workplace expectations. 
  • Three years' experience with budgetary and resource management 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate positively and effectively, both in writing and verbally. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Demonstrated organizational and planning skills with the ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines, work effectively in teams, and manage a large amount of detail. 
  • Demonstrated experience in budget management. 
  • Experience identifying and implementing new processes and/or procedures to increase efficiencies and customer service. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio) and the Work Asset Management System (WAMS). 
  • Experience supervising or managing a diverse workforce. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team. 
  • Self-starter.

The full salary range for this position is $47.75 to $51.58 per hour.
