The Seattle City Employees' Retirement System Department is seeking a graduate-level intern to provide support to the SCERS investment team on a special project and, occasionally, daily activities. The duration of this internship is approximately one year provided the selected candidate is enrolled in their graduate program.
SCERS provides retirement income to thousands of former City of Seattle employees and their beneficiaries. The investment team manages SCERS’s $5 billion investment portfolio (as of December 31, 2025).
Educational Benefit to Student:
Interns gain broad exposure to public equities, private equities, bonds, private credit, real estate, and infrastructure through observation and applied work in a multi-billion-dollar institutional investment environment.
Job Responsibilities
Portfolio analytics reporting:
Education:
Open to graduate students enrolled in an accredited graduate programs (MBA, MFA, MS or PhD in Economics, Business, Finance or Accounting preferred). Candidates from other programs must provide relevant coursework for review.
Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher throughout the internship and provide a copy of college transcript at the end of each quarter.
Strong preference for students able to commit to approximately a year.
Required Experience:
Enrollment in or completion of coursework in Economics, Finance, Investing or Accounting.
Desired Qualifications:
Start/End Dates: Expected early June 2026 start date.
Internship Duration: Approximately one year.
Schedule: Up to 40 hours/week during summer break, 15-20 hours per week during the school year. Work hours can be scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Job Responsibilities
Portfolio analytics reporting:
- Support integration of MSCI analytics, validate data, generate reports, and identify system enhancement opportunities
- Create custom templates for recurring analysis such as portfolio profiles, risk exposures, scenario analysis and risk forecasting
- Develop training manual and documentation to support business continuity
- Establish communication and documentation protocols for analytics workflows
- Update implementation and training materials related to staff responsibilities
- Design meeting preparation packets and presentation templates
- Develop a process to monitor proxy votes and track outcomes
- Assist with preparing PowerPoint, Word and Excel, and related materials for meetings
- Support administrative tasks related to fund administration, performance tracking, and manager documentation
Education:
