Job Responsibilities

As a Green Fleet Operations Analyst Intern, you will support the Drainage & Wastewater Logistics division by researching and analyzing the next generation of utility vehicle technology. You will work under the guidance of the Green Fleet SA and the Facilities and Fleet Ops Manager to help transition our commercial fleet toward more sustainable, efficient operations.

Research & Technical Analysis

  • Green Fleet Operations Analysis: Perform detailed analysis on "green" vehicle options suitable for utility operations.
  • Technology Assessment: Research emerging automotive technologies and fleet electrification to determine their viability for SPU’s specific operation needs.
  • Pros & Cons Evaluation: Assess the benefits and challenges of implementing new technologies within a professional fleet setting.

Fleet Operations Support

  • Utility Operations: Learn the fundamentals of utility fleet management and the specific requirements of vehicle replacement cycles.
  • Maintenance Insight: Gain exposure to fleet repair processes and maintenance workflows at the Operations Control Center (OCC).
  • Project Documentation: Assist with specifications and financial tracking related to green fleet projects.

Learning Objectives

Through this role, you will bridge the gap between classroom knowledge of automotive technology and practical fleet management. By the conclusion of this term, you will have:

  • Developed a solid understanding of professional fleet management within a large-scale utility.
  • Gained the ability to perform comprehensive green option analysis for heavy and light-duty utility vehicles.
  • Gained experience to critically evaluate the integration of new automotive technologies into an existing fleet infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • Education: Currently enrolled in a Vocational/Technical or Community College program.
  • Undergraduate students must be enrolled on either a part-time or full-time basis and maintain a 2.0 GPA for the duration of the internship.
  • Ideal Candidate: Someone with specific knowledge of the automotive industry and a strong interest in researching new fleet technologies.
  • Desired Knowledge:
    • General fleet management principles.
    • Understanding of fleet electrification and charging infrastructure.
    • Familiarity with emerging automotive trends and technologies.
  • Exception: Students are not required to be enrolled during summer sessions but must provide documentation of continued Fall enrollment.

License/Certification:

  • Current valid driver license from any state at time of application
    • Candidates must obtain a Washington State driver license on or before the date of hire.
    • Candidates must provide proof of driving record by submitting their Full Abstract Driving Record as part of the application material.
    • Your Full Abstract Driving Record must not be older than 30 days from the date of application submission.

Additional Information

  • Duration: Summer (May – September).
  • Work Schedule: 25 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 7:00 am – 12:00 pm.
  • Primary Worksite: Operations Control Center (OCC).
  • Salary: Full salary range for this internship is
  • Undergrad - $22.56 - $22.56 an hour.
  • Graduate Students - $27.67 - $27.67 an hour.
