About the Seattle Parks & Recreation Planning & Capital Development Branch:
Seattle Parks and Recreation’s Planning & Capital Development Branch (PCD) provides long range planning, technical design, review, and construction oversight for SPR major maintenance and development projects. PCD is comprised of project managers, engineers, landscape architects, planners and administrative staff.
Position Description:
We are looking to hire 1 intern for the summer and possibly ongoing during the academic year. The successful candidate will provide design and research support for SPR's Engineering, Design, and Technical Services Unit, in the implementation of planning projects and capital improvement projects. Intern will be supervised by a senior architect to learn and receive on the job training. The full-time internship will begin between mid-June to early July, and end on September 19, 2025. Intern will work 40 hours per week, hybrid remote/in-office and will perform both office and field work. If the internship continues into the academic year the schedule will be reduced to 20 hours per week.
Educational Benefits to the Student:
This internship will provide an opportunity to work with a team of Architects, Landscape Architects, Engineers, and Land Surveyors as part of the SPR's "Engineering, Design, and Technical Services Unit (EDT)". The student will gain "real world" experience by working alongside established designers and providing design support to EDT. The student will help with all aspects of Architectural Design work, including updates to current design standards, support on capital improvement projects with focus on drafting, concept design, schematic design, design development, and construction administration.

Required Qualifications
- Enrolled in a Master of Architecture program at an accredited institution.
- General knowledge of design, graphics, drafting.
- Ability to communicate technical information effectively verbally and in writing with coworkers and supervisory staff.
- Must pass a background check.
- May be asked to work on weekends and evenings.
- This internship will require frequent travel between different locations within the city. Current WA Driver’s License or proof of equivalent mobility required.
