Join a dynamic and passionate team dedicated to making recreation accessible, meaningful, and fun for individuals with disabilities.

The Adaptive Recreation team of Scottsdale's Parks & Recreation Department creates inclusive programs, community outings, Special Olympics sports, and social events that promote independence, connection, and confidence. As a Recreation Leader II, you’ll play a vital role in supporting participants during programs, facilitating engaging activities, and fostering a safe, respectful, and empowering environment where everyone can thrive.

This position is perfect for someone with strong interpersonal skills, creativity, and a genuine passion for promoting inclusion through recreation.

Every day in the role brings opportunities to make a positive impact, build relationships, and help participants discover what they can do.

The ideal candidate brings experience in:
  • Designing, leading, and evaluating recreation programs for youth, teens, and adults with a wide range of disabilities
  • Providing hands-on support to participants when needed (excluding personal care)
  • Adapting activities on the fly to match individual abilities and ensure everyone can participate meaningfully
  • Delivering age-appropriate, ability-appropriate instruction from step-by-step guidance to using high-visibility equipment for participants with visual challenges
  • Supporting the creation and implementation of individualized behavior plans
  • Keeping parents and guardians in the loop with consistent, twice-weekly communication about progress, activities, and any behavior-related updates
  • Maintaining clean, organized program spaces through end-of-day tasks like sweeping, mopping, washing dishes, emptying trash, and organizing storage areas
  • Maintaining valid CPR certification or willingness to obtain.

Anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity.  The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $25.29/hour.

Please note: Due to this position being part-time, the classification is unclassified, meaning it is at-will and serves at the discretion of the city. Part-time positions have limited benefits as required by law.
