About Us
The Purchasing Division of General Services is looking to fill an Associate Buyer vacancy that will be located at Denver International Airport (DIA).
The Purchasing Division is an agency within the Department of General Services. The Purchasing Division is responsible for acquiring goods and services for agencies of the City and County of Denver utilizing various governmental procurement "best practices", "including competitive bidding and direct "open market" purchases.
About Our Job
The position is responsible for performing standard level, professional purchasing work obtaining goods and services of all types by applying public purchasing best practices, in accordance with applicable City laws, policies and procedures. Each Associate Buyer will be assigned several commodity groups and will be responsible for maintaining a diverse list of Master Purchase Orders with numerous vendors. Additionally, when necessary, Associate Buyers are required to interact with applicable agencies of the City to facilitate completion of formal contracts. To be successful in this position, Associate Buyers are expected to be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel and must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Essential duties include but are not limited to: evaluate and review specifications, consult with internal customers, work with vendors to verify price quotations, confirm proper bonding, verify (with supervisor) that non-discriminatory and non-proprietary proposal and contract terms are in place, recommend solutions regarding disputes, award purchase order and proposals, analyze sole-source, professional preference and other bidding exceptions to recommend approval or disapproval, conduct vendor visits and evaluate vendor references, achieve and track cost savings, coordinate strategic procurements and monitor vendor performance.
About You
The position requires a Baccalaureate Degree in Business or Public Administration, Management, Political Science or a related field and two years of professional level experience in diversified or large-scale governmental or commercial purchasing. A Master's Degree may substitute for the minimum experience requirement. A combination of appropriate experience and education may be substituted for the minimum experience and education requirement.
