Description/Duties And Responsibilities

The City of Santa Clarita is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team with the City's Recreation and Community Services division as a part-time, seasonal (PTS) Recreation Leader III with the Registration Office at the Valencia Community Center or the Contract Classes program. Under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor and Coordinator, these positions will be responsible for performing a wide variety of clerical and customer service duties to support the facility and program needs.

These positions will work up to 20 hours per week and must have the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Answers multi-line phones and fields calls to the appropriate area
  • Interacts with participants, class instructors, and visitors in person, via phone, and e-mail
  • Registers members of the public for programs/classes using registration software; processes refunds, transfers, and reservations
  • Proofreads class/registration information and materials for use on website, brochures, flyers, etc.
  • Tracks, inventories, restocks, organizes, and maintains equipment and supplies
  • Organizes, prioritizes, and follows up on assignments
  • Maintains and files various forms, calendars, logs, and reports
  • Attends meetings and training sessions as needed
  • Tracks canceled classes and notifies participants promptly
  • Follows and enforces City policies
  • Organizes, plans, and works with other program areas, as requested
  • Effectively addresses issues and concerns with members of the public as they arise
  • Attends meetings and training sessions as needed
  • Performs other activities and duties as directed by the Recreation Supervisor and Coordinator

Registration Only

  • Operates cash register, handles cash and other tenders of payment, such as debit and credit cards; conducts closeout process
  • Opens and closes the facility
  • Assists with training staff on registration functions
  • Greets Community Center patrons and answers inquiries regarding programs
  • Tracks participant registration and transaction numbers each season

Contract Classes Only

  • Assists in the planning, promotion, and delivery of a wide variety of contract classes for youth and adults-including art, fitness, sports, and more
  • Uses the City's registration system to enter class details, monitor enrollment and waitlists, and issue payments and refunds
  • Schedules and prepares for instructor proposal meetings and orientation packets
  • Prepares and updates outdoor permits for contract instructors
  • Assists in marketing efforts, generates creative ideas, researches trends, and develops content for social media and other platforms

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent
  • Minimum of two years of paid experience in recreation, community services, customer service, clerical support, or other related experience
  • Completion of college courses is highly desirable
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid within one month of hire
  • Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered

  • Ability to follow and enforce City policies as they relate to the health, behavior, and safety of others
  • Ability to drive a vehicle and travel to various City facilities as needed
  • Creative and capable when it comes to preparing marketing content, using media tools, and navigating social media platforms to engage audiences
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends
  • Ability to lift, drag, and push files, paper, and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds or more is required occasionally

  • 3100-3109). Before entering upon the duties of employment, all public employees, except those excluded by law, take and subscribe to an oath or affirmation set forth in the California Constitution, declaring them to be Disaster Service Workers in time of need.

In compliance with California law, positions working with children are required to be mandated child abuse reporters. A mandated reporter is an individual who is obligated by law to report suspected cases of child abuse and neglect.

In addition, part-time, temporary, and seasonal (PTS) employees may be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program. This program authorizes the City to receive a driver record report upon enrollment and during employment.

This is not a designated Retired Annuitant position. If you are a California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) retiree, you may be required to reinstate into CalPERS.

PTS workers are at-will. Generally, PTS employees are limited to no more than 999 hours.
