The City of Santa Clarita (City) is committed to providing a challenging and meaningful work experience for college students. The City offers unique opportunities for students to gain hands-on and in-depth experience in a variety of disciplines related to local, regional, state, and federal government operations. We provide real-world work assignments, which provide interns the opportunity to work side-by-side with professional City staff committed to teamwork and providing superior municipal services to the community of Santa Clarita. The City Clerk’s Office intern will work on projects relating to the work performed in a municipal clerk’s office, including agenda and records management, standard operating procedures, and elections. Salary: $20.06 - 25.41/hour (Undergrad Level) $26.78 - $32.13/hour (Graduate Level)

This position may average 20-30 hours per week. The expected duration of this internship is one year and is not limited to winter, summer, or any seasonal assignment. The internship may end earlier or be extended depending on the needs of the division.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts research on applicable federal, state, and local regulations
  • Drafts, proofs, and prepares communications, memos, handouts, reports, spreadsheets, and presentations
  • Assists with budget analysis, monitoring, and forecasting
  • Conducts financial research and data verification
  • Analyzes and prepares recommendations related to process efficiency
  • Attends various weekly, monthly, and quarterly meetings
  • Collaborates with various staff, benchmark cities, and other agencies to obtain information on assigned projects
  • May provide administrative support and respond to resident questions and complaints, as needed If you are a current undergraduate student or recent graduate in the fields of Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field and are interested in gaining meaningful, hands-on work experience at the local government level, this may be the program for you.

  • General understanding of governmental organizations and municipal operations

  • Strong computer skills and the ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other computer programs
  • Reliable team player who works well independently and collaboratively
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and be sensitive to deadlines and changing priorities
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to demonstrate excellent customer service skills with internal employees and customers in a professional and timely manner
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain extensive and accurate records, ensuring all work is completed thoroughly and professionally
  • The ability to lift, drag, and push files, paper, and documents weighing up to 25 pounds APPLICATION DEADLINE: This position will close on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. (noon). Part-time, temporary and seasonal (PTS) workers are at-will. As a City of Santa Clarita public employee, you may be called upon to work as a Disaster Service Worker (DSW) in the event of an emergency (in accordance with Government Code
  • 3100-3109). Before entering upon the duties of employment, all public employees, except those excluded by law, take and subscribe to an oath or affirmation set forth in the California Constitution, declaring them to be Disaster Service Workers in time of need. This is not a designated Retired Annuitant position. If you are a California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) retiree, you may be required to reinstate into CalPERS.
