Under general supervision, maintains municipal grounds and landscaping for the City of San Luis and performs related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

As a Maintenance Technician, you will:
- Participate in a variety of grounds and landscape maintenance activities for the City of San Luis;
- Perform a variety of manual labor, repair, and maintenance work utilizing various hand and power tools, equipment, machinery, and/or vehicles.
- Operate lawnmowers, tractors, Backhoe, Bobcat, chainsaws, blowers, weed eaters, trimmers, utility trucks, and other equipment as required.
- Install and inspect irrigation systems/sprinklers, programs timers, checks valves and pipes, and repairs/adjusts as required.
- Maintain municipal grounds by mowing, trimming, seeding, watering, pruning, fertilizing, weeding, and planting grass, trees, and ornamental shrubs.
- Inspect the condition of grass, trees, and plants and determines appropriate care and maintenance measures.
- Apply pest and weed control products in compliance with safety standards and procedures and ensures public safety at work sites.
- Empty and clean trash receptacles and picks up trash and removes trash and debris from municipal grounds.
- Perform operator-level inspection, servicing, fueling and maintenance (including washing) of assigned tools, equipment, and materials.
- Report the need for major repairs, landscape activities, or supplies to Supervisor.
- Establish traffic control safety procedures at work sites as per MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) standards.
- May perform general concrete work.
- Perform Maintenance of Flood Control Facilities i.e., stormwater, retention & catch basins, etc.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Basic grounds and building maintenance.
- Landscaping equipment and materials, including irrigation systems.
- Operation of a variety of tools, equipment, materials, and vehicles.
- Operator-level servicing, maintenance, and repair of assigned equipment.
- Occupational hazards and safety procedures.
Will have the ability to:
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others and interacting with the public.
- Perform cleaning and landscape tasks which may require heavy lifting.
- Follow verbal and written instructions.
- Operate and maintain a variety of tools, equipment, materials, and vehicles.
- Perform operator-level servicing, maintenance, and repair of assigned equipment.
- Determine and provide appropriate landscape care and maintenance.
- Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in English.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- One (1) year experience in landscaping, irrigation systems maintenance and equipment operation.
Desired/Preferred:
- A commercial driver’s license (A or B).
- Flagger 1 Certification within one year of employment per Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
- Bilingual in Spanish.
- San Luis residency.
License and Certification:
All required licenses and certifications must be maintained throughout employment.
- A valid Arizona driver's license at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
- A Flagger 1 Certification or obtain within one year of employment per the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).

Work Environment
The employee works in an outside environment subject to extreme heat, dust, fumes, etc. Certain positions within the classification may require availability to work a flexible schedule.
