Liability Claims Representative II positions investigate, adjust, and settle simple or routine personal injury and property damage claims against the City; review minor accident and injury reports; interview and correspond with claimants, witnesses, attorneys and physicians; approve or recommend denial of claims; negotiate settlements; assist in the preparation of cases for litigation; prepare investigative reports; represent the City in small claims actions; conduct risk studies; perform cost recovery/subrogation functions; perform projects related to the maintenance of the City's insurance portfolio; and perform other duties as assigned. NOTE: Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
You must meet the following requirements on the date you apply, unless otherwise indicated. EXPERIENCE: Two years of full-time professional experience in the investigation, adjustment and settlement of general and/or automobile liability claims involving bodily injury or property damage. Qualifying professional experience MUST include the authority for approval of settlements and denial of claims. NOTE: City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will not be considered.LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License is required at the time of hire.
