About the Position:Under supervision, performs a variety of routine and responsible duties in scheduling 24x7 programming for the City’s cable television station; performs master control room operations; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The Programming/Traffic Assistant is a journey level position responsible for routine to moderately difficult tasks in support of CATV program objectives. It is distinguished from the Station Manager in the latter’s overall CATV program responsibility and independence in exercising judgment within the context of City polices and practices. Positions in this class are assigned to work various hours, including weekends and holidays.

A Day in the Life:
As a Programming/Traffic Assistant, your day starts with reviewing and updating the program schedule to ensure continuous 24/7 coverage for the City’s cable channels. You’ll edit videos, graphics, and monitor master control to keep broadcasts running smoothly. Throughout the day, you may set up and operate cameras for a City meeting, assist staff with production needs, or troubleshoot scheduling issues. Whether you’re behind the camera, editing in the studio, or supporting the community with excellent customer service, every day offers variety and the chance to use your creativity and technical skills to keep residents informed and engaged.
What You Need to Qualify
Education and Experience:
Possession of a High School Diploma, or G.E.D.,
AND
One (1) year of experience in commercial, industrial, or educational television production; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Desired Qualifications:
An Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university in television production, journalism, computer technology, engineering concepts, or drama is highly desired.
Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:
Possession of a valid Class "C" California Driver's License is required, and the ability to maintain insurability under the City’s vehicle insurance policy.

- Principles and practices of business communication as applied to cable TV programming for a highly varied audience; correct English usage, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.

- Specialized software used in cable programming and scheduling.
- Cable television programming and production techniques, practices and equipment.
- Video and audio editing techniques and equipment.
- Basic set layout and lighting.
- Perform a wide variety of studio, field and master control functions.
- Operate a variety of control room, studio and field production equipment.
- Prepare clear, concise, and persuasive written materials appropriate to a variety of audiences.
- Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.
- Organize and maintain records and files.
- Follow established safety policies and procedures in the use of product and control-related
- equipment.
- Work efficiently while maintaining multiple deadlines and changing priorities.
- Establish and maintain effective working relations with City executives, elected officials,
- managers, co-workers and others encountered in the course of work.
