Under general supervision, is responsible for working in collaboration with the Family Engagement Team and Engagement Manager to promote, facilitate, and develop family engagement in Pre-K 4 SA. This includes taking a lead role in Pre-K 4 SA outreach and recruitment events, supporting families in being strong advocates for children's education, helping parents increase their knowledge and skill in supporting learning at home, working with community groups to engage and support parents, and identifying resources for parents and families. Exercises no supervision.

This position is funded by sales tax that has been approved by the citizens of San Antonio for a limited time period. This position, therefore, is subject to at-will employment status, and is unclassified and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. 

Work Location
Various Pre-K 4 SA Education Center locations in San Antonio based on departmental needs.
Travel to other Pre-K 4 SA Centers will be required.

Work Hours
7:10 a.m. - 3:40 p.m., Monday - Friday; some weekends may be required based on departmental needs.
  • Organize and provide ongoing parent/family/community engagement trainings and meetings in coordination with the Family Engagement Team and Engagement Manager.
  • Assist parents/families/community and staff in understanding Pre-K 4 SA and school district policies; provide an exceptional customer experience for all families, with intentional and professional practices that promote a culture of respect and equity. 
  • Conduct scheduled home visits to improve communications with parents utilizing personal vehicle; will need reliable transportation.
  • Establish and maintain productive working relationships with Education Center staff and parents/families/community and community resource providers; establish relationships with children and families by being visible daily. 
  • Document program activities and outcomes, which will promote the identification of successful practices and the sharing of these practices.
  • Collaborate closely with Education Center staff, the Family Specialist, other family liaisons to organize and execute outreach and engagement events.
  • Keep parents informed of program opportunities and services available at the school or within the community to support student progress. 
  • Attend professional learning sessions to ensure continued growth.
  • Performs related duties and fulfill responsibilities as required.
Physical Requirements
  • Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying of 5 pounds; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment. Subject to sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting, and kneeling to perform the essential functions. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency.
  • One (1) year of experience in education, social services, adult education, community organizations, or related fields.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of college from an accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) years of experience in education, social services, adult education, community organizations, or related fields.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License, or have the ability to obtain one within sixty (60) days of employment.
Applicant Information
  • Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

  • Knowledge of cultural differences and implications of culture for service delivery.
  • Knowledge of standard program evaluation methods and report writing procedures.
  • Knowledge of the communities which are served by Pre-K 4 SA (quadrants of SA).
  • Knowledge of community resources for families within San Antonio, such as housing, transportation, food assistant, and medical and dental care.
  • Knowledge of school system and pertinent laws and policies that affect families.
  • Skill in utilizing a personal computer and associated software programs.
  • Skill in operating general office equipment.
  • Ability to compile, organize, and maintain accurate and complete records and files.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Center staff, partnering school districts, and parents.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position.
