Essential Job Functions
- Classifies fingerprint cards according to the FBI and Henry System of Fingerprint Classification.
- Conducts search of classified cards against cards in the City files with similar fingerprint classifications to verify identity and perform warrant check on those identified as required.
- Searches fingerprints of unknown deceased individuals against files to attempt identification.
- Processes classified fingerprints and arrest records according to department policy.
- Fingerprints individuals arrested and other individuals required to be fingerprinted (i.e. as prerequisite for employment or as required by other governmental agencies) to ensure proper identification.
- Collects fingerprint cards from county jail for processing (i.e. verify identity and update records).
- Conducts criminal history record reviews for public on request.
- Assists Law Enforcement personnel with copies of general information requested.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
- One (1) year of administrative clerical experience.
- Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and Family Violence Convictions.
- Experience with fingerprinting.
- Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
- Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.

- Knowledge of fingerprint classification systems, to include the FBI and Henry systems.
- Knowledge of the science of fingerprints.
- Knowledge of all department procedures related to the fingerprint process and the search for "criminal" history, to include the classification of fingerprints, searching procedures, warrant checks, identification of deceased individuals, and release of information procedures.
- Knowledge of photo processing and microfilm processing procedures.
- Skill in utilizing Sirchie fingerprint glass, a fingerprint stand, lektrieve, "Bates" numbering machine, microfilm machine, and wetprint machine.
- Ability to operate a computer keyboard and other basic office equipment.
- Ability to accurately classify and search a fingerprint card.
- Ability to locate classification "points" on a fingerprint and compare to other fingerprints.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
