Join Team Salisbury as a Construction and Zoning Inspector in the Land and Development Services Department. We’re seeking a motivated candidate to conduct inspections to ensure development complies with the City’s codes and standards as well as the approved plans and permits. This role plays a vital part in shaping the City’s development and infrastructure while ensuring regulatory compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws.

Main duties for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Establishes and maintains records and reports as needed to support and document, activities and decisions.
- Patrols the City to identify noncompliance as needed with new construction and development for compliance with City requirements.
- Monitors commercial and residential development, and construction activities for compliance with the City’s adopted Uniform Construction Standards and Zoning Ordinance including roadway, driveways, sidewalk, storm drainage, and stormwater control devices; inspects for compliance with the sign provisions and floodplain development standards of the zoning codes and driveway provisions of the code of ordinances.
- Performs on-site inspections (initial, progress, and final) to ensure compliance with issued development plans and permits and issue certificates of completion, compliance, and/or occupancy.
- Perform final inspection of stormwater control measures to ensure conformance with the approved plans and compliance with NPDES regulations.
- Conducts and coordinates on-site meetings with contractors, other city departments, and outside agencies to discuss project/inspection requirements.
- Documents field conditions and notes as-built conditions on engineering drawings for in-house staff.
- Ensures that work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.
- Posts public hearing signs according to required schedule.
- Responds to complaints from the public regarding zoning violations and investigates and determines any needed action.
- Inspects development projects for adherence to approved plans prior to issuance of Certificate of Occupancy.
- Performs pre and post driveway inspections for pouring of concrete or other construction methods for compliance with City codes; and enforces unpermitted driveway installations.

Ability to work effectively across teams and departments.
- Ability to work and build relationships with contractors, developers, and the general public
Minimum Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited institute, college, or university with an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology, construction management, or closely related field; or a bachelor’s degree in urban planning; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the requisite knowledge and skills
- Possession of valid North Carolina driver's license Preferred Certifications:
- APWA Construction Inspection Certification; or
- Certified Zoning Official (CZO)

Salary Range: $25.42/hour – $36.35/hour (dependent upon experience)
$2,000.00 sign-on bonus to be paid as a lump sum after completion of a successful probationary period.
