What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accounting Technician position at City of Salinas?
- Performs accounting duties within the City's accounting system
- Monitors a variety of accounts involving posting, balancing and preparing journal entries
- Reconciles bank statements for various City accounts
- Processes and review travel authorizations for all City Departments
- Maintains and monitors grant programs, trust accounts for the City, fixed assets inventory, assessment districts
- Types and processes a variety of documents including letters, e-mail, reports, statistical charts and forms
- Processes and maintains personnel and payroll records
- Assists in preparing various audit related financial reports
- Performs special assignments as requested
- Provides assistance to account clerks and accounting technicians as necessary
- Promotes and maintains safety in the workplace
- Performs related duties as assigned
- Account record-keeping principles, practices and terminology
- Appropriate laws, rules and regulations
- Efficient office methods and procedures
- English grammar, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation
- Basic computer processing application, including spreadsheets
- Mathematics and statistics
- Perform responsible accounting and treasury work requiring use of independent judgment and initiative
- Adhere to good accounting practices and procedures
- Perform mathematical and statistical computations
- Prepare accurate financial and statistical reports; maintain detailed records
- Process detailed paperwork in accordance with specific policies and procedures
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the public
- Deal tactfully and courteously with the public and other employees
- Maintain confidential data and information
- Operate electric and electronic adding, calculating and data processing machines, to include appropriate computer hardware and software
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Employee must complete SB 1343 Sexual Harassment Prevention Training within six months of appointment and every two years thereafter.
