What You Will Do
The Bilingual Adult Librarian will create and maintain meaningful connections with patrons, coworkers, and library partners. This position will manage a portion of the library's collection in a proactive, responsive, and inclusive manner. The librarian will plan, conduct, and evaluate events and activities that support lifelong learning for adults of all ages. This role will collaborate with coworkers and support the library's mission of "engaging all of Salem in lifelong learning, accessing information, and making meaningful connections."
The Bilingual Adult Librarian will be responsible to assisting Spanish speaking patrons in person, by phone, and by email, maintaining the Spanish language adult collection through selection, evaluation, and deselection of materials, conducting library programs, tours, and community outreach in both Spanish and English, and assisting with the written translation of library promotional materials.
A marker of success in this role will be the ability to support and further the objectives outlined in the library’s 2022-2027 Strategic Plan.

Additional Information On Job Responsibilities
- Interact daily with members of the public to deliver library services and provide information in person at a variety of service desks, as well as via phone and email.
- Connect customers with library products, services, materials, and events, including answering and resolving questions about services and accounts, and providing information, directions and referrals.
- Provide routine and complex reference and readers' advisory services as required.
- Maintain a high level of technical expertise and instruct patrons in the use of library technology and digital resources.
- Design, plan, and implement events and activities for adults at the library and other community locations, with a focus on reaching community members not currently attending library events.
- Represent the library at community events and meetings to promote awareness of the library’s resources, services, and programs.
- Manage an assigned area of the library collection, including the selection, evaluation, and maintenance of materials and other resources in according to the Salem Public Library Collection Development Policy.
- Answer questions about library policies, facilities, and resources.
- Support the implementation of library rules and procedures by reporting concerns and being aware of surroundings.
- Remain calm, creative, and flexible when managing stressful or emergency situations.
- Serve as part of the library’s Person in Charge team as needed.
- Assist with and participate in the training, development, and direction of library staff and volunteers.
- Lead, collaborate, and actively participate in work groups, project teams, and committees.
- Maintain proficiency by attending trainings, webinars, and workshops.
- Work as needed at the West Salem Branch located at 395 Glen Creek Rd. NW, Salem, OR 97304.
- Perform all work of lower library classifications as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- A college degree from an accredited college or university in a related field to program assignment (i.e., library science, business management, hospitality, social work, psychology, etc.), and some work experience related specifically to libraries or a combination of education, experience, and/or training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.
