This posting is subject to close after 14 days ****************************************************************************************************************** Responsible for operating plant processes, equipment and machinery; conducting routine laboratory analyses; collecting and reporting data; performing general maintenance and mechanical repair; and serving as lead worker on assigned shifts or projects. Major Duties Inspect, clean, and lubricate plant equipment such as boilers, pumps, motors, incinerators and related machinery. Monitor and record equipment performance, gauges, and charts for treatment plant and remote facilities; adjust, repair, and replace equipment as needed. Maintain accurate records of plant operations and activities. Performs routine maintenance and assist with major repairs on pumps, valves, motors, regulators, and other equipment. Conduct laboratory tests to monitor and adjust plant operations as required. Performs maintenance tasks, including cleaning equipment, janitorial work, painting. and assisting with equipment or facility modifications; provide emergency maintenance as needed. Operate all plant and pumping station equipment. Adjust pumps and chemical feeds based on flow and treatment demands. Work at Remote Facilities as needed. Performs other related duties as required. Job Requirements Minimum Qualifications Education High School diploma or GED Experience Minimum one (1) year of experience in wastewater treatment plant operations or industrial maintenance. Experience with preventative maintenance and basic repair of pumps, motors or related mechanical/electrical equipment including the ability to identify and report potential issues. Licenses and Certifications Valid State of Michigan driver’s license, maintained in good standing. Must obtain and maintain Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification as follows: Class D within two (2) examination cycles of meeting experience requirements in accordance with EGLE. Class C within two (2) examination cycles after attainment of D certification. Knowledge of: Materials, procedures and equipment used in wastewater treatment plant operations and maintenance. Hydraulic systems including open channel and pressure systems Interrelated plant systems such as chemical feed systems, water systems, and sludge handling processes. WAGE SCALE Classification E Entry level, must meet all minimum qualifications (Education, Experience, and State of Michigan driver’s license) Classification F Must have the EGLE “D” Wastewater Certification Classification I Must have the EGLE “C” Wastewater Certification Working Conditions This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force, work requires frequent standing and walking, occasional sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling; work requires little grasping, manipulating or making small precise hand movements; work has standard vision and hearing requirements; vocal communication is required to express ideas; work has frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, gases, grease/oils, odors, vibrations, and exposure to blood borne pathogens; work requires the occasional use of protective devices such as Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, respirator, masks, goggles, and gloves; work requires infrequent exposure to high precarious places, below ground level, in confined spaces and risk of electrical shock; work is generally in a loud noisy location (e.g. heavy traffic, large earth-moving equipment). City recommends immunization against Tetanus and Hepatitis A and B. City will provide immunizations; employee may decline. Must be able to work a rotating shift including nights, holidays, and weekends as assigned.
