Examples of Duties
- Performs bacteriological and chemical testing of water, wastewater and industrial pretreatment by accepting samples from outside customers and reviews chain of custody forms; maintains, troubleshoots, calibrates and assists in the development and implementation of new and revised testing methods and procedures; performs all required testing for all equipment and methods; wears appropriate PPE and follows safety guidelines.
- Documents analytical process by logging equipment, supplies, analytical processes in accordance with laboratory protocol and standard operating procedures; reports positive bacteriological samples to the TCEQ for compliance purposes; generates appropriate corrective action forms when required; reviews internal and external chain of custody forms.
- Maintains inventory and evaluates consumables for the facility by performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, instrumentation cleaning and standard verification checks on all laboratory equipment.
- Evaluates and verifies the test results and sample documents are correct by re-analyzing samples that do not pass criteria; alerts appropriate management and other staff of irregular findings.
- Participates in the operations of the Household Hazardous Waste collections and other Environmental/Recycling Outreach programs by making signage of various announcements for Environmental Services/Recycling events.
- Provides customer service and technical support for the department by answering questions or collect/analyze samples when necessary.
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, microbiology, environmental science, engineering or related scientific field.
- At least one (1) year of experience as a laboratory analyst or in a similar position.
- Class D Water Operator License OR Class D Wastewater Operator License issued by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within six (6) months hire.
- 40-hour HAZWOPER certification within six (6) months of hire.
- Valid Class C Texas Driver's License or the ability to obtain prior to employment.
